wish list wednesday

What am I wishing for this Wednesday?

* These re-usable bags for your grocery cart. Genius!

* Some beautiful, blooming azaleas in my front yard.

* This funny little checklist. I would feel so accomplished!

* That Chick-fil-A bottled and sold their Honey Roasted BBQ sauce. They’re like little packets of happy.

* This little love note necklace. It would be great layered with some other strands; plus, I love that you can actually put a little note in it!

dress up

Kell cannot understand why when someone asks me to bring a salad to a party or get-together I won’t just buy greens and dump some store-bought dressing on it (not that there’s anything wrong with that). I wish I could say it was because I was concerned about preservatives in bottled dressings or that I was trying to be economical, but it boils down to this: it’s not fun to me. I’ll take any excuse to try a new recipe.

I made this dressing last weekend, and I thought it was really great. I put it on some mixed greens with cherry tomatoes, sliced mushrooms, red onion and feta. The dressing is really light and fresh-tasting on a salad, and I think it would be delicious on fish or as a marinade for chicken or shrimp. It doesn’t make a ton; I doubled the recipe and only got as much as in the picture, but once you have all the herbs, it’s really inexpensive and quick to make. This one looks good, too!

What are your weekend plans? Kell and I are attending the Faith at Home conference at our church and having lunch with friends on Saturday. Aside from that, I desperately need to wash clothes. And if I could coax the sun to stay out, I’d love to work on my tan!

Have a great weekend, friends! I'll be in the Delta for a few days next week, but I'll be back soon! You can handle it, right?

wish list wednesday

It's my friend yaya's 30th birthday today! In case you didn't know already, we've been buddies since we were in the 2-year-old nursery in church. 28 years...yowzaa! I love that she'll always be older than me.

In the wishing spirit, here are a few Wish List Wednesday birthday wishes!

What do I wish for yaya today?

* That every channel had Seinfeld re-runs all day.

* To be able to take Max to school in her purse.

* That instead of her usual healthy lunch, she'd eat Cadbury Mini Eggs.

* 24 consecutive hours of George Strait on the radio.

* That I could give her a hug today! Happy Birthday!

wish list wednesday - pray for Japan edition

What am I praying for this Wednesday?

* That the people of Japan will feel God’s comfort in the aftermath of this unspeakable tragedy. (Zephaniah 3:17)

* The safety of those entering Japan for the purpose of helping those in need. (Hebrews 13:2)

* The wisdom of the engineers working on the nuclear reactors and peace for their families. (Psalm 107:43)

* That through this disaster, more people would come to know Jesus and follow Him. (John 16:30)

* That everyone would donate to Samaritan’s Purse to assist in their aid to the Japanese people. (Deuteronomy 16:17) If you can’t donate your money, please give just a few minutes of your time and say a prayer. (Philippians 4:6-7)

What will you pray?

blue kitchen

I have a blue kitchen, and this picture makes me want to paint the chairs around my table bright red.

I also love the bottles around the high shelf near the ceiling!

How do you feel about painted furniture?

tgif

Whew! I finally made it to another Friday! This has been an enormously long week for me. You? I've just had the hardest time making it to 5:00 this week. I'm so glad the next 5:00 I'll see will be the one that sends me right out the door. Booyah! Audi 5000 baby!

Just a few things to report on today...

1) Please say a prayer for the great people of Japan. If you've been reading my blog for a while now, you know I've been several times (you can read about a couple of them here and here) and that I simply adore it. And for a country that places such a high value on safety and security, this will be quite a setback for them.

2) I think I'm giving up hitting the snooze button for Lent. Maybe I'll get used to it enought to incorporate it into my daily life after Easter, too. Fingers crossed... What are you giving up?

3) I got a nook color! In an attempt to be a literary purist, I swore I would never get one and that I would always be a supporter of turning a written page, but I caved. And I blame Kell for pushing me over the age. Well, I have embraced it, and if you're a reader, you should consider it too.

Now that that's out of the way, what are your plans this weekend? Kell and I are having dinner with Ben and Jess on Saturday night, and she's requested I bring Candied Almond Salad. Other than that, I plan on reading Harris's blog (she's back!), listening to some She & Him and NOT getting out of my pajamas. Hooray!

Have a great weekend, my friends. xoxo

* For Cadbury Mini Eggs to disappear from Earth forever.

* A cute trench dress for spring. I love this one at EmersonMade.

* That I was better at yard work. Or even liked it. Just a little bit.

i'm hungry

...and this is what I'd like to eat:

Kell would die over these Banana Cupcakes with Honey-Cinnamon Frosting (I'm trying to work on saying "frosting" instead of "icing.")

These Sweet Potato and Parmesan Chips would make a delightful snack. They're baked!

My grandmother never made chocolate cobbler, but I bet it would be as good as this looks.

As if pimiento cheese wasn't good enough, I'll have mine with bacon, please.

And to get my protein in for the day, I'll have a big ole slice of Peanut Butter Banana Bread.

Let the drooling commence...

happy happy birthday...

...to my absolute favorite author of all time - Dr. Seuss! Thank you for all your silly words, silly places and silly characters. Grown-ups sure could learn a lot from your children's stories.

"Be who you are and say what you feel,
because those who mind don't matter,
and those who matter don't mind."
