"I've discovered that my own little postage stamp of native soil was worth writing about and that I would never live long enough to exhaust it."

hello there, monday

I hope all my readers had a wonderful weekend like I did - I went to go see my sister in Birmingham! We had such fun girl time - shopping, eating out and Alice in Wonderland (also with Claire - a total must-see). Check out the kitty cupcakes I made for Harris's (early) birthday! (check out Hello, Cupcake! for details...)

I finished In the Sanctuary of Outcasts, and I've already recommended it to so many others. Neil White, after being convicted of a white-collar crime, is sentenced to a prison in Louisiana that also houses leperacy patients. His really down-to-earth writing style makes you feel like you know him and want to root for him. It's a wonderful story of family and friendship and all variations thereof. The characters are beautifully written, and for a Mississippian who's familiar with the territory, the story comes very much alive. Not to mention, the author is a dreamboat in his picture on the book jacket.

I'm now reading Family Affair by Caprice Crane, recommended to me by my (twitter) friend Jen Lancaster, author of some of the most hysterical books in print. Book review to come soon!

Have a lover-ly Monday!

PS - which Oscar star was your fave last night? No one blew my socks completely off (what's with all the ball gowns?), but I thought Maggie Gyllenhaal looked absolutely wonderful... And how adorable is that Stanley Tucci?
