re-do

bedding by Urban Outfitters
I’m overwhelmed. May I tell you why?

Kell and I are re-decorating our bedroom (I even started a Pinterest board for it!). Actually, I shouldn’t say “re-decorating” because it was never decorated in the first place. Unless by décor, you mean some hand-me-down furniture from our parents and the comforter Kell had on his bed in college. True story. Don’t even ask for a before picture.

So I decided to sit down and make a list to share with you of everything I want to do. Well, now I’m daunted. Look what I have to do…in no particular order!

Choose paint color
Headboard
Euro shams
A little chair to throw stuff on
King shams
Bedspread/Coverlet
Throw pillows
Curtain panels/hardware
Bedside tables
Knick knacks/sit-arounds
Lamps
Art for over bed
Paint chest of drawers (if Kell will let me)

I have some ideas for a few things, but seeing it in list form seems like so much! I’ve never liked decorating a little at a time. I suppose it’s my impatient nature, but when I want something done, I want it done now! Oh, and there’s this little thing called a budget that we have to take into consideration as well. Of course my first plan is to win some money from a raffle to which Laura Merrill sold me tickets. But in the off chance that doesn’t happen, I need to be prepared to some bargain-hunting and DIY.

What are your ideas for me? What should I invest in, and where can I be frugal? What other advice do you have?

I’m getting worked up just thinking about it.

Have a lovely weekend, friends!

Ok, so I am not a decorating pro but I do consider myself highly into frugal living and budgeting! (I know, FAR cry from my early days. I impress myself daily)

I have bought several really nice pannels from TJ Maxx and Homegoods. You have to be patient, though. But I have seen Pottery Barn panels, West Elm pannels, etc. Window treatments are so expensive (custom hurts my heart).

I never pay retail or full price for anything. Seriously. Even if you buy a piece of furniture at a retail place, bargain with them. Most are willing to come down on their prices - especially these days.

Ok that's all.

Good luck! Can't wait to see the finished product!

HomeGoods has awesome lamps for pretty cheap!!

Shop thrift stores/consignment for a chair and bedside tables - you'll find unique stuff at good prices, but again - patience is key!

I would splurge on fabric to COVER said chair. Unless it is a really big chair.

I found some AWESOME curtain rods for our new house at Lowe's on clearance. (Ex: $50 rod for $10). They put out clearance items on Saturdays usually!

One great thing about Ridgeland... TJ Maxx, Marshall's, Tuesday Morning and Kirkland's are all in one place. I had not walked into a Kirkland's in YEARS until a couple of months ago. I found a CUTE side table there for my den. For a great price, too!

You can do it! You have great taste!

So fun! I just saw some great looking upholstered headboards at Home Goods... also love old doors or shutters or gates as headboards (just get really comfy pillows to lean on then!). I agree with Claire on the fabric. I wouldn't spend as much on things that may not move with you if y'all move, such as window hardware or even the window treatments. Lowes has great cut to size on site bamboo shades, if you like that look. I love layering them with fabric panels. Have fun! You better post progress pics.
